Chace Community School is a comprehensive mixed state secondary school in Enfield Town with 1210 pupils in 2005. It is situated on Churchbury Lane with its fields backing on to Baker Street. It should be noted that the spelling of Chace is correct, despite the school being close to the Chase Side area of Enfield. The school logo is the Enfield (the same as used for the borough's logo). Its colours are black and red.

[edit] History

First opened in 1956 as a secondary modern school for boys in Chase Side. The school became comprehensive in 1967 and was merged with Enfield Grammar although they demerged 3 years later. The school became co-educational in 1985.

[edit] Houses

The school previously had 4 houses, named after 4 large estates in the area. These are listed below with the house colour in brackets.

  • Capel (red) named after Capel Manor. Now the home of Capel Manor College for agricultural related studies
  • Myddelton (green) named after Myddelton House. Now the home of Myddelton House Gardens
  • Trent (blue) named after Trent House. Now within Middlesex University
  • Whitewebbs (yellow) named after Whitewebbs House. Now a Brewers Fayre pub

The house system was abolished from September 2003.

[edit] Performance

[edit] GCSE level (Key Stage 4)

The school is in the bottom half of the Enfield league table with 45% achieving 5 GCSEs at grade C or above in 2005.[1] Bullying is a moderate problem, and so is class disruption.

[edit] A Level (Key Stage 5)

In 2005, the average points score was 254.5, equivalent to just over 3 grade C A Levels.[2]
