Chacas is a district of the province of Asunción, in the Ancash Region of Peru.[1]

Chacas is the prettiest town near Huaráz, famous by its beautiful seat of arms, its art in wood and its run crazy people of bulls, in which all can participate. The route in bus from Huaráz by Olympic End is one of most spectacular of Peru.

If you are not a montañista, but equal it likes to occur an idea of which it is to be above between the highest mountains of the White Mountain range, it only takes a bus from Huaráz to Chacas happening through the 4,890 m (16,043 ft) of Olympic End. The bus will take it towards the north to Carhuaz and of it enters the tube of the broken Ulta there, happening towards the east just as opposed to the snow-covered Huascarán, the highest mountain of Peru (6,768 m or 22,205 ft).

At the end of the tube, that comprises the Park Nacional Huascarán, the highway slowly by its ascending curves, around reveals a magnificent Vista of the valley and mountains, being the Ulta mount, with its piramidal form, closest.

During the rainy period the route covers some times with meters of snow. But including in the periods of drought you will be surrounded by snow in Olympic End.

If pídale to the conductor wants to take photos in the way only from the bus that stops, he probably allows to lower him to make some takings of the landscape. Specially beautiful they are the Cancaraca lagoons, just after the passage of Olympic End in the valley of the broken Potaca, a little more down, the Yanaraju lagoon. All the lagoons have different colors, from green clear to blue deep.

All the passage of Huaráz to Chacas will take 3 or 4 hours. Only there are few buses that to newspaper make that route, Transvir is one of them and leaves early in the morning; buy tiquete with a day of anticipation so that it rectifies the time of departure.

The highway is despavimentada and raises by dangerous steep, but the bus drivers generally take their time so he is not so miedoso.

The final destination, Chacas, are a charming and calm, famous pueblito by its custom Spanish, being the most excellent bullfight of bulls of 17 and 18 of August in the Seat of Arms. The central seat seemed to be designed specially for the festival, with a great field of gramilla in center. The ditch between the field and the street that surrounds it can be very useful at the time of escaping of a bull that persecutes it. Within the church there is a gigantic and very interesting painting of the people who were involved in her construction.

"If somebody dies is a good year, if all follow alive is badly a year", said to me a local inhabitant smiling when speaking to me of the dangers of the festival of bulls.

Only one person was seriously wounded while I was in the festival, that begins 16 August with colorful dances and processions. The processions are organized by Italian volunteers that work for the organization Operazione Mato Grosso. They are equally responsible by most of the magnificent wood art that can be appraised in any balcony of the Seat of Arms and in the church.
