Alvarez grew up in Miami, Florida. He received his Bachelor's degree, Masters in Business Administration, and Juris Doctorate all from the University of Florida.
Alzarez has been the CEO of Greenberg Traurig for the last 10 years. This company is now comprised of 1700 attorneys and government professionals in 33 locations in the United States and all over the rest of the globe. Traurig is recognized as one of the fastest growing law firm in the United States. It is also the 7th largest law firm in the country.
