CERT Coordination Center

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The CERT Coordination Center was created by DARPA in November 1988 after the Morris worm struck. It is a major coordination center in dealing with internet security problems.

The CERT/CC is run by the federally funded Pittsburgh based Software Engineering Institute (SEI) at Carnegie Mellon University. The SEI also created the Capability Maturity Model (CMM).

The CERT/CC is not to be confused with United States Computer Emergency Readiness Team (US-CERT) formed in 2003 as part of the National Cyber Security Division of the United States Government's Department of Homeland Security, however the two organisations do work closely together and cross reference each other.
