---- - CRITICISM - - The Central Board of Secondary has widely been criticised for unnecessarily pressurising students with a lot of examinations and homework and including a lot of portion for the Boards at the last minute. The suicide rate among CBSE students is extremely high.Around 6,000 suicides were reported in 2007 and this is just a small portion of the cases which went unreported. It is also widely criticised for being extremely exam oriented.Students are tested for their memory and speed and not knowledge.Recently a new system called'HOTS'or High order thinking skills has been introduced. This has greatly reduced the student's scope to score. After the introduction of "HOTS" ,the CBSE officials commented that if students still score 100% they would be better than teachers. The inclusion of 30% of Year 9's science portion for Year 10 and the inclusion 40% of Year 11's chemistry portion for year 12 has infuriated the students and the parents all the more. Many a times, the syllabus undergoes revision and students get their books very late into the year. They are put under great stress to cover the syllabus. For example: The Class 10 Social Studies syllabus is undergoing revision and hence it will consist of forty three bulging chapters and half a dozen books. - The students feel crushed by the pressure to perform as well as the increasing competition. - The realization that high percentage students are more intelligent has lead to increased withdrawal from the schools following this system of education.
