Century High School is a high school in Pocatello, Idaho. Century is the home of the Diamondbacks and is involved in many sports and activities. Recently, Century earned the honor of Most Excellent Student Leadership award and was featured in Newsweek's 2007 lineup of the top 1300 high schools in the U.S. It was opened for the 1999-2000 school year to accommodate the growing population of Pocatello. During the planning stages, the residents of Pocatello voted on what to name the school, as well as its mascot and colors. The name "Century" was chosen to reflect the turn of the century. For the same reason, "Millennium" was a popular choice. In that vein, there was a push for the mascot to be the Millennium Falcon. In order to fill the classrooms during its first few years, students who attended the other high schools in the city, Pocatello High School and Highland High School, were given the option to change their enrollment. Just a few years ago, the students at the 3 school were all given the option to change enrollment again. Many students miss Pat Charlton, Century's first principal who "graduated" with the Class of 2007. Century is praised for it's outstanding educational environment.
