In 2006, Billy Michelsen tied a school record with 10 3 point field goals in a game against Minot High School. He also tied another school record by scoring 37 points in that game. John Fraase finished his career in 2006 as the school's all-time leading scorer in basketball with 987 points. Michelsen is continuing his basketball career for the Bismarck State College Mystics and has completed his freshman season. Fraase has now also finished his freshman season as a member of the Concordia College Cobbers of Moorhead, MN.
In 2007, Century won the boys' state soccer title for the first time in school history. The Patriots entered the state tournament as the WDA #2 seed following a shoot-out loss to Bismarck High School in the regional championship game. [1] Following a 1-0 victory over Fargo Shanley High School, the Patriots again went to a shoot-out against the EDC #1 seed, Fargo South High School. During 100 minutes of regulation and overtime, Century sophomore goalkeeper Michael Frenzel made 13 saves. Frenzel also made one save in the shoot-out, which coupled with goals from Alex Paulson, Joey Paulus, David Gendreau, and Broderick Neameyer gave Century a 4-2 victory and a berth in the state championship game. [2] The championship game matched Century and Bismarck High School for the second time in eight days. Following a scoreless first half, Century fell behind 1-0 off a goal by Bismarck's Ryan Malm. The Patriots overcame the deficit scoring four goals in the final twenty-five minutes (3 Alex Paulson, 1 Scott Rings), and went on to win the game 4-1.[3] Following the championship, sophomore Michael Frenzel and seniors Alex Paulson, Joey Paulus and David Gendreau were named to the all-tournament team. Paulson and Paulus were also named 1st team all-state, while senior Cole Kroshus was named 2nd team all-state.[4]
