Centurion (Freedom City)

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Centurion is a character from the Freedom City campaign setting of the Superhero oriented role-playing game, Mutants and Masterminds. Like most characters in Freedom City, Centurion is designed to resemble the archetype of a classic comic book hero, in this case Superman.

Centurion has powers very similar to Superman, and plays a similar role in the history of the Freedom City setting. He was the first publicly active superhero of the 20th century, and inspired others to follow in his steps.

Centurion was born in an alternate timeline where the Roman Empire never fell, but his world was under attack by Omega, Lord of the Terminus; and it was losing. A scientist of this world put his son into an experimental device that sent him across the dimensional void to the world of Freedom City, and the alien energies the infant was exposed to gave him tremendous power. He was raised on "A-Terra" Earth as Mark Leeds, as his powers slowly developed, and he eventually discovered his true origin. Calling himself Centurion, he fought crime as a hero, while becoming a noted Professor of Roman history in his civilian life.

After a decades-long career of heroism, Centurion finally sacrificed his life to save his adopted homeworld from the threat of Omega. A statue stands in his honor in Freedom City, and his name is spoken of in reverent tones. Unlike Superman, Centurion died once and stayed that way.
