Centro Box Hill in Box Hill, Victoria, Australia is a medium-sized shopping centre.

It was built in the mid-1980's when the old railway station and level crossing was removed, and Market and Main Streets were closed to traffic, and refurbished in 1998. In 2000, it was acquired by the Centro Properties Group, who have since renamed it to Centro Box Hill, though many still refer to it as Box Hill Central. In late 2007 the nearby Centro Whitehorse shopping centre was merged with the Centro Box Hill name.

The south section has a gross lettable area of 24,390 square metres and is constructed on 36,800 square metres of land. It has a total of 105 stores and an annual turnover of $92.9 million. It is located within a short distance of several Box Hill Institute of TAFE campuses and as such is frequented by many students. It is also strongly associated with the Asian (and in particular ethnic Chinese) community.

The north section has two levels and was originally called Whitehorse Plaza. It was extensively renovated and renamed Centro Whitehorse around 2000.

[edit] Public transport

The south section of Centro Box Hill was built above Box Hill station and has a major bus interchange on its roof. The north section is right next to the terminus for tram route 109. It passes through the inner eastern suburbs en route to the city and Port Melbourne. It was extended from Mont Albert to Box Hill in May 2003.

[edit] Market

Unusually, the centre has a large, indoor, fresh food market towards the back of the south section, which is a popular attraction. Part of the reason for this is that in 1895, a large market was opened next to the station.
