[edit] History
CABS was set up in 1991 to lead the Airborne Surveillance Platform (Airawat) project. Its task was to develop airborne electronic systems on a flying platform for early warning, command and control functions.[1] The program was carried on until 1999 when the flying platform HS 748 crashed in Tamil nadu killing all the eight people onboard.[2]
[edit] Present Areas of work
The Airawat AEW Project codenamed was revived in 2005 and the new system will be based on Embraer EMB-145 with an active phased array radar, satellite communications, IFF, SIGNIT and COMINT Sensors.[2]
The center is also responsible for testing HAL Tejas avionics on an HS 748 testbed.
