The Les Terrasses shopping centre occupied the Centre Eaton site from 1975 to 1987, and was officially opened in 1976. The "Les Terrasses" Centre was managed at the time by Rouses Quebec Corporation Development and York Hannover Development (from 1978 to 1993). Les Terrasses had a rather peculiar layout, that was split-level and deemed too labrythine by many, and the addition of a couple of bridges, and the color-coding of the floors, did little to help, so the entire building was gutted and demolished. The rows of light at the underground west entrance are a remnant of that era, as the use of many lightbulbs on entrances, and the underside of escalators, was a trademark of Les Terrasses. The current food court was originally the highest floor of the parking garage. In September 1997, after the fall of Services de Gestion CEM Inc., Cadillac Fairview Corporation Ltd. took over the shopping centre. The Centre has now been owned and operated by Ivanhoe Cambridge Inc. since July 1, 2000.
