Central Village (06332) is a village in the Town of Plainfield located in Windham County, Connecticut. Central Village encompasses approximately eight square miles and is home to roughly 2,500 residents. Predominantly a residential community, Central Village does contain some light industry. The Quinebaug Valley Trout Hatchery is located there. This closed aquaculture facility is one of the largest hatcheries east of the Mississippi River, producing 600,000 trout annually.[citation needed]
Connecticut Route 12 and Connecticut Turnpike (I-395) both run North and South through the Town of Plainfield. CT-12 bisects Central Village, and is the village's major thoroughfare. Central Village is serviced by Exit 89 off of I-395. There is no direct air, passenger rail, or navigable water access to Central Village, although it is serviced by the Providence and Worcester Railroad (freight only).[citation needed] The railway parallels the Connecticut Turnpike corridor.
Central Village also is the home of the larger Town of Plainfield's High School, Plainfield High School. The village has its own football field, The Rams Field, for a Midget football league.[citation needed]
The village houses the Central Cycle Motocross Club, a race track for motocross racing. The track was established in 1967 and is a non-profit organization.[citation needed]
Fire Protection in Central Village is provided by the Central Village Fire Co, an all volunteer engine company that also offers first responder, hazardous materials and water rescue services. The fire company was organized in 1913 after a devastating fire at the Central Hotel. The Fire Co. presently operates two fire engines (ET197 & ET297), one light rescue truck (R197), one mini-pumper (F197) and one rescue boat (B197).[citation needed]
