[edit] Athletics
Central Regional High School competes in the Shore Conference, an athletic conference made up of private and public high schools centered at the Northern Jersey Shore.[3] All schools in this conference are located within Monmouth County and Ocean County. The league operates under the jurisdiction of the New Jersey State Interscholastic Athletic Association (NJSIAA).
[edit] Softball
The girl's softball program has a long list of accomplishments dating back to its first ever Shore Conference divisional championship in 1978. Since that time the lady eagles have captured 10 divisional championships, five Ocean County championships, one Shore Conference championship, and two South Jersey Group III state sectional championships. The program began in 1976 under head coach, Marshall Davenport. He was followed by Norman Selby who amassed a career mark of 254 - 95. Most recently, the team is guided by Steve Stout who brought the team back to prominence, falling just short of another state sectional title in 2007.
[edit] Wrestling
The Central Regional wrestling team has enjoyed several successful seasons and has produced some outstanding individuals as well. In 1968, Alan Hess became Central's first ever New Jersey state medalist finishing in fourth place. In 1985, CR crowned its first NJSIAA state champion, Darnell Myers, under the guidance of coach Paul Mueller. Brothers Mark and Maurice Worthy won a combined five NJSIAA Championships with Maurice going on to a runner-up finish in the NCAA DI Championships while attending West Point Academy. The team had a successful run in the mid-1990s under long-time head coach Pat Lynch.
Central Regional hired a new head coach, Mike Bischoff, to take over the reins of the program upon Lynch's retirement in 2003. In 2005, the team won its first ever South Jersey Group III State Sectional title in thrilling fashion over four-time defending champion Kingsway Regional High School. The following season brought a second SJ Group III title after dispatching Kingsway for the second straight year.
In all, the wrestling program has produced six state champions, 21 region champions, and 47 district champions. It has earned two South Jersey Group III state sectional championships, two district championships, and six Shore Conference divisional championships in its 43-year history. Currently there are eight former Golden Eagle wrestlers competing in the college ranks.
[edit] Marching Band
Central Regional High School's marching band, the Marching Eagles, are a Group III Band in the USSBA. The Marching Eagles are under the direction of Mr. Jeff Genthe. The Color Guard director is Ms. Colleen McCauley.
