Central Federal District (Russian: Центра́льный федера́льный о́круг Tsentralny federalny okrug) is one of the seven federal districts of Russia. The word "Central" is of political and historical meaning; actually the district is situated in the extreme West of Russia. Its population was 38,000,651 in the 2002 census, living on an area of 650,700 km² (251,236.7 mi²). The Presidential Envoy to the Central Federal District is Georgy Poltavchenko.
