The 401E is a bus route in the West Midlands, United Kingdom.
[edit] History
At first glance, and to those who have not long lived in the areas served by the bus, service 401E appears quite unusual. However, before Diamond Bus operated the route, National Express West Midlands service 401 operated linking Walsall with Bilston via West Bromwich, and the 401E was a shortened working of that route. The 401 was then curtailed by National Express West Midlands and now only operates between West Bromwich and Bilston, so now the stretch of the route between Walsall and Yew treet is the same as the 401E. Note, that presently Diamond Bus also operate in competition with National Express West Midlands on route 401.
[edit] Present
The 401E is a regular Diamond Bus bus service in the West Midlands conurbation. It links Walsall town centre with the nearby areas of Palrey, The Delves and finally the Yew Tree Estate in Sandwell via Bescot Stadium.
The route experiences competition for passengers along the majority of the route from National Express West Midlands services 405, 405A and short working service 405E.
