Central Branch Union Pacific Railroad
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Central Branch Union Pacific Railroad was the follow-on to the Atchison and Pike's Peak Railroad.
Established in the 1860s, after an initial round of construction it existed as a 100-mile-long line in Kansas between Atchison and Waterville. In the late 1870s the line extended west to Beloit and then to Downs.
In later years the line extended into Nebraska, reaching the towns of Superior, Hastings and Prosser.
It was operated by and eventually purchased by the Missouri Pacific and became the Northern Kansas Division of the Missouri Pacific.
