Centinela Valley Union High School District is a school district headquartered in Hawthorne, California, United States. The district operates high schools serving Lawndale, most of Hawthorne, and a portion of El Segundo.
[edit] History
The district has its basis in a 1905 formation, the "Inglewood Union High School District".
This 1905 district was composed of the territories of today's Hawthorne, Inglewood, Lennox, and Wiseburn School Districts. Territory taken from the Wiseburn School District in 1912 for the El Segundo School District contributed an additional component of this original "Inglewood Union High School District".
On November 1, 1944 that original name was changed to the current "Centinela Valley Union High School District" 1.
November 22, 1925, El Segundo School District withdrew in favor of an El Segundo High School District (both now subsumed into ESUSD).
On July 1, 1954, Inglewood School District withdrew participation to form the Inglewood Unified School District. Since 1945, California 'Unified School Districts' allow combined elementary and high school districts. Since the 1978 closing of Lennox High School (now served by the Lennox Mathematics, Science & Technology Academy), the Centinela Valley Union High School District consists of four teaching campuses:
- Hawthorne High School,
- Lawndale High School,
- Leuzinger High School, and
- Lloyde Continuation High School
