Centerbrook

Centerbrook is a village located in the town of Essex, Connecticut. The village is home to numerous businesses, the Essex Steam Train, a post office, and Essex Elementary School. It has many houses but it is generally considered the more commercial part of Essex.[1]

The village consists of the area immediately west of the Route 9 expressway, extending southwest along Route 153 to Tiffany Brook, west along Main Street to Earl Street, and north along Route 154 to Route 9.

Centerbrook is home to Spencer's Corner, a large business complex which houses the Community Music School, Essex Vision Center and Seaflour Bakery, among other businesses. It sits on the corner of Main Street and Bokum Road. Centerbrook is also home to Cumberland Farms, a gas and convenience store franchise, and a branch of the New Haven Savings Bank. Centerbrook Architects is a well-known architectural firm located in a large brick building across from Spencer's Corner. Centerbrook Pizza is located off of Route 154 in Centerbrook and sits right in front of Falls River. There are Mobil and Sunoco gas stations, a Brooks Pharmacy, Debbie's Cafe, and Scoops Ice Cream. There is Gabriel's, a restaurant, and numerous medical offices.

Essex Elementary School is the local school for residents of Essex. It serves grades K-6 and has around 560 students.

There are two churches in Centerbrook- a Lutheran Church, which sits on Main Street just before the school, and a Congregation Church, which sits between the Mobil station and Debbie's Cafe.

The Centerbrook Post Office is located across from the VFW Memorial Hall. It serves the residents of Essex with the zip code of 06409.

The Essex Veteran's Hall and Veteran's Memorial is located on Route 154 in Centerbrook. It features a wall with the names of the Veterans from Essex who have served their countries bravely.

[edit] Essex Steam Train

The main station of the Essex Steam Train is located in Centerbrook. The steam train has tracks from the Shore Line East Amtrak line is Old Saybrook all the way up into Haddam, but uses primarily the tracks from Essex to Haddam. The steam train and riverboat ride goes from Essex to Deep River on the train, but the Dinner Train goes from Essex and crosses Route 82 in Haddam.
