Homepage Centennial Collegiate

Centennial Collegiate is a high school located on the east side of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. Centennial opened its doors for the first time for the 2006-2007 school year, which was Saskatoon's Centennial year. The school is attached to the soccer center, and is home to several specialized "academies". The school currently enrolls students in Grades 9 to 11, but plans to add Grade 12 in the 2008-2009 school year.

[edit] Academies

The Academies allow students to concentrate in soccer, dance or science, and are one of the primary reasons parents and students choose the school.

Soccer Academy

The Soccer Academy takes place during periods one and two on Monday, Wednesday and Friday, in the second semester. The program is mostly on skill work. The program is only possible because of a joint partnership between the Saskatoon Soccer Association and the City of Saskatoon. One project that is planned for later years is an International Tour, where students will go out-of-country to learn how the big International teams train. The head coach is Bryce Chapman, and most of the coaches are the phys-ed teachers. The program costs close to $2000, not including the cost of shoes.

Dance Academy

The Dance Academy is a big one. It is almost all-girls but three boys have entered, and one left almost immediately. They study hip hop, tap, jazz, ballet, musical theater, lyrical, modern, cultural and ballroom dancing. The Dance Academy also performs outside of Centennial Collegiate as well. The Dance Academy is taught by Coralee McNarland.

Science Academy

The Science Academy is new to Centennial as of the 2007-2008 school year. Its a program for Grade 11 students (Grade 12 in the future) to learn science in a new and creative way.

Chargers Football

Centennial Collegiate currently has two football teams, seniors and juniors. Football equipments such as shoulder pads, thigh, knee, hip, and tailbone pad set, football shorts and both practice and competition jerseys are provided by the school (providing if the students pays a $50 caution fee). Football cleats and gloves must be purchased by the student (gloves are optional although they are highly recommended for colder temperatures and receivers). The junior team currently holds an undefeated record. Currently, no tryouts are necessary. Both junior and senior football starts first day of school.
