[edit] Serial Comma

Does WP have a policy about it? I'm not going to revert the deletion of one from Illuminatus!! (I don't think I wrote that sentence), but I guess I'm one of those people who think the serial comma is sometimes appropriate; the sentence it was in seemed to be one of those. It stated: "The narrative often switches between third and first person perspectives, and jumps around in time." With the comma this indicates that the narrative switches between two perspectives and that it also jumps around in time (jumps being a verb). Without the comma it seems to me that it indicates that the narrative switches between three things: two narratives and jumps around in time (jumps being a noun). I don't know that that makes a big difference, but it does seem to make a difference. Incidentally, have you ever seen What Color Is Your Parachute? That author is a comma fiend as I recall.

As for the Numerology passage, I could take it or leave it (I did primarily write that one). Illuminatus does have 5, 17, and 23 sprinkled throughout starting from the first page, and there are a number of places where the numerology is discussed in far greater detail than it would be possible to cover in the article. Why did you think it should be removed, does it make the article too long, does it not explain it as well as it should, or is it simply unnecessary? Thanks. Шизомби 20:33, 9 March 2006 (UTC)

The Featured Article Oddball Barnstar

The Featured Article Odball Barnstar

Category: Featured Articles

The Featured Article Oddball Barnstar is awarded to Celestianpower for being the driving force behind the successful Bulbasaur FAC. An unusual article for an encyclopedia, but one most deserving.

[edit] I have a question

Your a big wig at Esperanza so, i have a question. Would a little contraversy like talking about teams in sports and stuff be any good?--Slipknot222 01:27, 13 March 2006 (UTC)

[edit] please help

I'm upset and am appealing to you as the admin who "welcomes the chance to help users out." -not to mention your esperanza involvement. I plastered my complaints all over my user and talk pages. Any comments or actions would be helpful, just please don't not respond. Thank you. -LambaJan 03:06, 13 March 2006 (UTC)

Thanks for any consideration. Things settled a little bit and my upsetness simmered down to a mild case of dissapointment. I think I'll be ok. I wish I were good enough to have not gotten upset at all, but people let names and labels come between them and logic and normal procedure, and that just got under my skin. I'm sorry if I brought you into a difficult situation. -LambaJan 02:43, 14 March 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Bulbasaur FAC

Congrats! Remember it was me who told you it was going to be alright, hahaha :-P -- Rune Welsh | ταλκ 13:17, 13 March 2006 (UTC)

Congrats for getting Bulbasaur passed. FAC's are always tough, but that one was crazy hard. However, I'm offended by the notice on your userpage that "opposers can just rot". Telling me that I can rot because I thought the referencing was poor in the article you wrote (which is the same thing I tell dozens of people on WP:FAC) is gratutitously inflammatory. I expect better from someone with your reputation. —Spangineer[es] (háblame) 03:24, 16 March 2006 (UTC)
Thanks for the kind reply. I understand your frustration with people who think your work is poor and perhaps don't value it as much as you do, but I encourage you to assume good faith. We're all here to build an encyclopedia; the problem is that we all have different ideas of what the perfect encyclopedia looks like. Oh, and nice sig =) Have you been using it every since you started here? —Spangineer[es] (háblame) 03:31, 18 March 2006 (UTC)

Thanks for your support and kind words on my recent RfA, which I am pleased to say passed with a final tally of 80/1/1. If you ever need any help, or if I mess something up as an admin, please let me know.

[edit] Your School IP

Hi mate. I just plonked a very short ban on your school IP (30 minutes) for vandalism. However, I noticed that some of the edits were coming from other IPs in the same block, and the talk pages for some of those say they belong to "UK Internet for Learning". Are the addresses specific to your school, or does your school access via some other service? --kingboyk 13:08, 22 March 2006 (UTC)

Hi (I'm answering here because I can't edit anywhere else, obviously). Well, they must be used elsewhere since there was only one boy on these machines during then, a lesson. He might have done it but I doubt it since it was during a lesson. I really don't know - sorry. --Celestianpower háblame 13:20, 22 March 2006 (UTC)
OK, cheers. I don't know if you've found it yet or not, but Wikipedia:Blocking policy proposal might interest you. If adopted and implemented could solve these problems for you. --kingboyk 14:39, 22 March 2006 (UTC)

[edit] RfA thanks!

Image:WikiThanks.png Hi CP! Thanks for extremely supporting my RfA, mate. It passed at 105/1/0, putting me in WP:100 - I'm delighted and surprised! I'm always happy to help out, so if you need anything, as always please drop me a line. Cheers! ➨ REDVERS 19:50, 22 March 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Wikipedia:Wikiethics

Hi,

We started a proposal Wikipedia:Wikiethics to state the existing policies coherently and make suggestions on improving the editorial standards in Wiki. I thought you might be interested in contributing to that proposal.

Unfortunately, a pro-porn and pro-offense lobby is trying to make this proposal a failure. They unilaterally started an approval poll although almost no one including me believe that it is time for a vote, simply because the policy is not ready. It is not even written completely.

Editors who thinks that the policy needs to be improved rather than killed by an unfair poll at the beginning of the proposal, started another poll ('Do we really need a poll at this stage?') at the same time. The poll is vandalized for a while but it is stable now. A NO vote on this ('Do we really need a poll now?') poll will strengthen the position of the editors who are willing to improve the ethics policy further.

If you have concerns about the ethics and editorial standards in Wiki, please visit the page Wikipedia:Wikiethics with your suggestions on the policy. We have two subpages: Arguments and Sections. You might want to consider reviewing these pages as well...

Thanks in advance. Resid Gulerdem 00:13, 23 March 2006 (UTC)

[edit] I would love your help.

Hi CP,

I know you are interested in christianity, and I recently started a new wiki over at wikicities which is on the subject of christianity. Christian Knowledge Base is the site.

The goal is to have a knowledgebase on christianity from a distinctly "C(hristian)POV" rather than the NPOV. It is not meant to be a mere Christian Encyclopedia, but to foster a real sense of community. I'd like to include things like current events, news, stories, and anything that would add to both an understanding of Christianity, but also its enjoyment. I'm looking for help to build a resource that could really enrich the lives of Christians.

I know you are busy but I am actively seeking new sysops/admins to help me build this site up, and I would be positively thrilled if you could contribute in any capacity whatsoever. nsandwich 05:51, 24 March 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Esperanza IRC bots

Hello Celestianpower. KOS made both Misza13 and me remove our bots from #wikipedia-esperanza, based on the philosophy that only one bot should be allowed in the channel. However, I got the impression earlier that you did not subscribe to this belief, and I thought I would try and appeal KOS's decision to you :-) Thanks, Where (talk) 17:37, 24 March 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Esperanza Newsletter, Issue #1

Reach out is a program aimed at allowing users to bring issues that they have had in Wikipedia to a listening, sympathetic and caring audience:
"No one can know how we feel if we do not say. We cannot expect to get understanding if we do not ask for it. No one will dispute that sometimes life's issues are too much for one person. It is fair to say that sometimes Wikipedia's problems fall under the same heading. This is a place where you can bring the bruises that can sometimes be got on this project for attention."
The Stress alerts program aims at identifying users who are stressed, alerting the community of thier stress and works in tandem with the Stressbusters at trying to identify causes of stress and eliminating them.
Note from the editor
Welcome to this new format of the Esperanza Newsletter, which came about during the last Advisory Council meeting - we hope you like it! The major changes are that each month, right after the Council meeting, this will be sent out and will include two featured programs and a sum up of the meeting. Also, it will be signed by all of the Advisory Council members, not just Celestianpower. Have an Esperanzial end of March, everyone!
  1. Future meetings are to be held monthly, not fortnightly as before.
  2. Bans and Access level changes (apart from autovoice) in the IRC channel are to be reported at the new log.
  3. In the IRC channel, there is going to be only one bot at a time.
  4. The charter requires members to have 150 edits and 2 weeks editing. Why this is the case will be clarified.
  5. A new Code of Conduct will be drafted by JoanneB and proposed to the Esperanza community.
  6. The NPA reform idea is to be dropped officially.
  7. Charter ammendments are to be discussed in future, not voted on.
  8. The Advisory Council is not going to be proposed to be expanded by the Advisory Council themselves, if others want to propose it, they will listen.
Signed...

[edit] Thank you for Skarmory

Hey Cel, thanks for helping via tidying up the Skarmory and Torchic article! I feel slightly better when someone doesn't wipe my editting or complain because it doesn't fit in the dot-to-dot guide. The main reason Skarmory was needing a lot of work was primarilly (that can't be you spell that) because I've been focusing more Torchic (I never want to see another plush toy again), as well as the portal, rather than Umbreon and Skarmory (which I both did work on tonight). Thanks again and keep you the great work, Highway 01:12, 28 March 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Images and questions..

Hey.. again.. : P I am still working on Torchic, and I was thinking about adding a couple of pictures to improve the article. I was thinking that a picture of one of the plush toys and/or a screenshot of Torchic in [[Pokémon Ruby and Sapphire]. While I could manage to find/photograph a picture of Torchic in-game, and copy the copyright tags used from other in-game screenshots, I was not sure if I could upload a Hasbro product picture.

So, questions:

  1. If I was to upload a screenshot, could I use the normal tags (I was looking at the picture of the battle between Bulbasaur and Charmander in the Bulbasaur which you uploaded) ?
  2. Can I upload a Hasbro picture? If so, what tags would I use?
  3. Does uploading picture kill bandwidth/MB/etc, or is it just the same as uploading into a Photobucket?

Hope you can help me with my questions. Thanks much, Highway 14:40, 28 March 2006 (UTC)

Thanks for the advice, it did help. Couple of things though..
    1. .. What's an emulator? I'm guessing it's some form of program that plays the game or similar, where can you find one?
    2. I don't have the toy myself, it's on the website. I'll guess I'll have to settle for the screenshot..
    3. I'm sure it'll be the same, the word "upload" was what freaked me earlier : P

Thank you for the help, Highway 15:02, 28 March 2006 (UTC)

The toys are also on pokémoncenter.com, are they under any different liscening? Highway 15:07, 28 March 2006 (UTC)
