[edit] Josephine Anwhistle

Thanks for clarifying Ike's death. I figured he was probably eaten by leeches, but I thought I should check - I can't just start making up the plot from what I've inferred.

One thing I'm still not clear about - Josephine evidently has all sorts of nasty things happen to her in the film (at least, I presume they happen to her - (the article says she fears them happening to "you", oddly enough... who, me?). These things happen only in the film, according to your comments, and not in the books (this sounds like an entertaining scene, by the way, and a little elaboration might not go amiss). Are her fears even mentioned in the books, or only in the film? This might be a minor point, but the books, specifically, are mentioned in the intro, and now it's a little confusing as to where the article's talking about the film and where it's talking about the books. The film needs to be treated as a seperate entity, especially where it differs from the literature.

I'm also a bit puzzled as to why she would have a couple of lifejackets floating around. TheMadBaron 22:58, 27 October 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Sir

When you have a moment, could you add a note to Sir? The article doesn't really explain his significance.... I gather from the guardians box thingummy that he was a guardian to the Baldywotsit orphans - so I'm wondering how he came to be lumbered with the role, and what became of him - whether he murdered by the evil Count Olaf, or whatever.

I might have to actually read this stuff one day (it sounds quite entertaining) - but then I couldn't be so objective as to these articles' clarity, of course.... TheMadBaron 23:16, 27 October 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Boolean algebra edits

You are starting to experience what I have. The PhDs will soon start to call you ignorant (in nice terms) and say that you have no business editing their article. They may also suggest that you go study all the concepts they consider pre-requisites for understanding the opening sentence as they had written it. Of course, understanding those concepts, and their pre-reqs, etc., would require that you yourself get a PhD in mathematics, at which time they may allow you to edit their article, LOL. StuRat 17:52, 28 October 2005 (UTC)

Incidentally, Charles Matthews is among the nicest of the PhDs (he is also the top expert the other PhD's refer to). Other lesser PhDs would likely treat your edits more like vandalism. StuRat 18:01, 28 October 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Firefox extension

Would you happen to know how to make a firefox extension using Javascript? It would be very simple and used to fight vandalism. The basic idea is to feed RC diff's into firefox, and let it determine which pages contain text (such as an obscenity) listed in a file. For pages that don't contain anything on this list, the tab is closed. The others remain open and ready to be examined. If you can't figure out how to hookup the IRC RC output into firefox, then it could be used with WP:CDVF to open new tabs in firefox to be checked. I found a guide to making extensions, but it says you need to know Javascript. Thanks. — BRIAN0918 • 2005-10-30 03:51

[edit] Phase shifting

I've got some issues with Phase shifting - it seems to me that the article was discussing two entirely different subjects. I've removed all references to the audio effect (related to the treatment of waves) which was already covered extensively at Phasing - this leaves an article about a compositional technique which I'm aware of, but have never heard referred to as "Phase shifting", which is an expression often used to refer to the audio effect.... I think a redirect might be in order. Your thoughts? TheMadBaron 07:47, 30 October 2005 (UTC)

Sure, it's a good article (well, it is now). And it's probably important. I'm just not sure about the name.... So, you studied this technique at school.... and it was referred to as "phase shifting?" Really? Only, I think most people would use that to refer to the audio effect (or related science), and I can't help feeling that the compositional technique should be known by another name.... I'd be happy to be proven wrong.... TheMadBaron 19:37, 30 October 2005 (UTC)

[edit] How about now?

Changed my sig a bit, per your comment -  BD2412 T 15:23, 30 October 2005 (UTC)

Still, I've managed to knock about 20 characters off my sig. :-D BD2412 T 15:31, 30 October 2005 (UTC)
Believe me, that I know - I heard about it when I was using this monstrosity -  BD2412 thimk | act - for my sig. BD2412 T 15:45, 30 October 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Signature

I've tried, but I can't display the colors outside of a signature without a template, nor can I get the subst: function to work. I guess this green will have to do for now. --Merovingian (t) (c) (e) 22:56, 30 October 2005 (UTC)

Agreed. --Merovingian (t) (c) (e) 23:08, 30 October 2005 (UTC)
I've tried to put all the code in the signature blank, and while it works, it takes up quite a few lines in the edit box.  :/ --Merovingian (t) (c) (e) 11:06, 31 October 2005 (UTC)
Here and there, but there's not much that fazes me. --Merovingian (t) (c) (e) 11:43, 31 October 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Wiki Trading Spaces

Absolutely! Feel free to go nuts on my page. The only things I'd ask you to keep are my Babel and my picture, and include the {{userpage}} template if possible. And if you could maybe fit my barnstar in? (It's currently sitting on my talk) Thanks a ton for the offer, I really appreciate it =) ♠PMC♠ 02:28, 31 October 2005 (UTC)

To Celestianpower for doing my userpage over out of sheer niceness.

[edit] Edit summaries

Ah, an Englishman grovelling on the ground to an American. As things should be! ;) Overall over 4090 edits, 89%. First 500, 46%. Last 500, a fantastic 99.6%. So you English lot can be educated! Impressive! ;) --Durin 13:42, 31 October 2005 (UTC)

[edit] "3 months"

In your nomination statement for Wikipedia:Requests for adminship/FireFox, you say that you hope people will look past the "3 months". Is that supposed to mean that 3 months is too little time on Wikipedia to be ready for adminship? Heck, I've been wanting to nominate User:GraemeL and User:JoanneB for adminship for almost a month now, but neither of them has been here for 3 months yet. And recently I've found another two possible admin candidates, User:Ilmari Karonen and User:Just zis Guy, you know?. JIP | Talk 17:51, 31 October 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Request for comment and help

Hi there. Because of your abilities in CSS and respect around the 'pedia I was wondering if you could take a look at Wikipedia:WikiProject Usability/Color Tabs and Wikipedia:WikiProject Usability/Main Page and comment on them. The tabs is in in very early stages and I'm sure a lot of bugs/personal differences will arise and I'm hoping to get some good coders behind it it to get something done. The Main page redesign is very close to a vote but the are a few users who are very vocally opposed to change. I'd appreciate your opinion. Thanks for your time. - Trevor MacInnis (Talk | Contribs) 17:57, 31 October 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Where to start

I hope you're fine and that the sign saying you're in is correct...don't know where to start with this user's contributions... maybe you'd like to take a look? Alf melmac 20:05, 1 November 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Your welcome template

Apparently when I copied the pop-up tools from your monobook.js the other day I did not realize that your welcome template actually has a link to your username. (Well, it is actually non-obvious since it only links the template). Anyway, I don't know whether the intended functionality of the tools is to include your welcome template or not, but I do want to apologize for the bit of confusion here. I'll change the reference to your template in my .js. Cheers. -- Rune Welsh | ταλκ | Esperanza 22:58, 1 November 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Moe Epsilon

I am leaving because of the frustration I feel towards some editors. I feel there is nothing left for me to do. Feel free to add this to the comment I stated on the Esperanza talk page. — Moe ε 22:06, 2 November 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Compromise proposal on Template:Suicide

I have a possible solution to the dispute on Template talk:Suicide#Compromise proposal. When you have time, take a look at it and note your possible assent or not in the appropriate section. Thanks! — Phil Welch 22:39, 2 November 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Real Big Prawn Speedy delete

Hi, I noticed you closed the AfD for Real Big Prawn. I didn't see the page before it was deleted so I don't know what the content was. However, I was wondering if you were aware that there is a thing that exists called the Big Prawn, in Ballina NSW. It is possible that this is what the original article was trying to refer to. Scroll down this page for a picture: [1] It is also red-linked on the WP article on Big Banana (for some reason, Australians have a penchant for building cheesy oversized 'things'. It could be a hangover from the days of megafauna, I dunno). Anyway, just thought I'd let you know. Even if this was what they were talking about, it was still at the wrong page - should be Big Prawn I'm guessing.) cheers. pfctdayelise 23:21, 2 November 2005 (UTC)
