Template talk:Celtic mythology topics

[edit] Categorizing
OK, as I proofread the "Ancient Celtic and Gaulish" section, there are some entries I'm not sure what to do with. Does an obscure deity described as "British", with a cult center in England, really belong there? (Example: Arnemetia) We don't have a general Brythonic section... but I don't know that these sorts really belong in the Welsh section, either. Do we do Gaelic and Brythonic, with sub-sections? - If it does not fit, it does not fit. Let's remove any ambiguous entries. ≈ jossi ≈ (talk) 01:04, 6 June 2007 (UTC)
Fair enough. It's a huge-ass template as it is ;-) - Kathryn NicDhàna ♫♦♫ 01:30, 6 June 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Breaking it down
I knew that gigantic over-determined table would one day morph into a template. But there's just way too much going on here. We're working with three or four cultural groups (each in different regions and eras). Compare Roman mythology, which uses – for a single cultural group –
- {{Roman religion}}
- {{Roman myth (trade)}}
- {{Roman myth (abstract)}}
- {{Roman myth (rustic)}}
- {{Roman myth (minor)}}
A similar breakdown allows you to have big themes of general interest at the top, specific themes at the bottom. I'd like to propose a similar solution here. I'm imagining (at a minimum) templates along these lines: {{Celtic mythology (Goidelic)}}, {{Celtic mythology (Brythonic)}}, {{Celtic paganism (prehistoric and Roman)}}, {{Celtic folklore (Scottish)}}... I'd prefer to break the Irish (i.e. Goidelic) material down further into cycles. What do you think? Q·L·1968 ☿ 20:37, 11 July 2007 (UTC)
- Sure... Go ahead. We will need then to check all articles that use the template and replace it with the more approriate one. ≈ jossi ≈ (talk) 23:33, 12 July 2007 (UTC)

- Hearing no suggestions from others, I've finally convinced myself to use the tautological {{Celtic mythology (Mythological)}} for the sake of symmetry. Q·L·1968 ☿ 21:17, 16 October 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Big-Ass Template gets worse
OK, while I appreciate the work that went into making the sections collapsible, what we have now is a template that is not accepting "collapsed" as a default. I'm going to try to fix the code but if I can't, I'm either reverting or removing it from articles. It's just too visually overwhelming if it can't be collapsed.
