Ceibal project

The Ceibal project is the Uruguayan counterpart of the One Laptop per Child project.
The name “Ceibal” was chosen because of the symbolic meaning that has for Uruguayans the Ceibo, a national emblematic tree and flower. Ceibal stands for ”Conectividad Educativa de Informática Básica para el Aprendizaje en Línea”, which can be translated as "Basic informatic educative conectivity for on-line learning".

The implementation of the project is responsibility of LATU and the Presidency of Uruguay and is also supported by Agency for e-government, ANTEL, the Ministery of Education and Culture of Uruguay, the Innovation Agency, ANEP, CODICEN, within others.[citation needed]
