Cedric Brooks
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Cedric "Im" Brooks, Jamaican saxophonist born in Kingston, Jamaica in 1943.
Brooks worked with many artists in Studio One including Burning Spear and others. His recordings advanced instrumental reggae in the roots tradition by using powerful arrangements for many horns. In 1973 he teamed up with Rastafarian Drummer Count Ossie as musical director and leader of the horn section of a group called "Count Ossie and the Mystic Revelation of Rastafari". From this collaboration resulted the triple LP-Set "Grounation", followed up in 1975 by "Tales of Mozambique". These two albums represent examples of the fusion of Rastafarian Nyahbinghi-Drumming, Reggae and Jazz. Cedric Brooks went on to develop this style with his own group, the Divine Light (later called The Light of Saba). Cedric Brooks is known for his intricate work with Jamaican jazz and ska. In 1999, after the death of Rolando Alphonso, former saxophonist of the Jamaican ska band Skatalites, Brooks joined the crew.
Brooks attended Alpha Boys School, which is known for its musical tradition. [1]
