[edit] Orientation

With regard to the proper orientation of Islamic burials, are they to face true Mecca or a theoretical Mecca located due east? Because from Ankara, Mecca is more south than east, no? Doops | talk 06:35, 29 March 2007 (UTC)

True Mecca, as far as I know. But I am not too sure either :) Baristarim 06:52, 29 March 2007 (UTC)

Hello, I'm sorry, but I don't understand what you mean when you say they are 'facing' Mecca. Does that mean that it's as if the corpses would be standing, and their feet are pointing towards Mecca, or the opposite? Or does it matter? I always thought that once someone was buried, they were facing up! —Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.144.96.45 (talk • contribs)

Means that their heads are pointing at that direction, like a compass :) Baristarim 05:06, 31 March 2007 (UTC)
