CDVU+ (pronounced "CD View Plus") is a new technology created by the Walt Disney Company. It is essentially a revamped version of the Compact Disc (CD), and will include multimedia "Extras" on the disc. New features such as "digital magazine extras" like band photos, interviews, lyrics, and exclusive photos will be accessed by inserting the disc into a computer.[1] Disney, in an attempt to promote CDVU+'s growing appeal, stated to develop unique content for the format and not just repackage already-available media.

[edit] Background
The CDVU+ is an attempt of Disney's and Hollywood Records to reverse the declining trend of CD sales in the industry. The format's debut was 8-7-07 from the Jonas Brothers' eponymous second album.[2]. CDVU+ replaces the traditional CD booklet/jewel case with eco-friendly packaging (100% recyclable, 35% post-consumer) while still offering a large amount of physical content according to a press conference with Hollywood Records representatives. In a statement from Abbey Konowitch, the General Manager at Disney's Hollywood Records label, "To address the changing consumer expectations, we've created a recognizable physical product that also serves as a key to unlock content that is exclusive, interactive, tailored to the band's fans, and updatable." Which means that each artist's disc is original, its content is downloadable to the CD disc as well as containing content downloadable from the disc onto the persons computer. Neither Disney, nor Hollywood Records have released sales expectations but are confident that the 2007 holiday season is going to be a welcome surprise to many industry experts expectations.
