This user was up all night finding userboxes and is now very drowsy. |
Hi!
Thanks for checking out my user page. There's not much left to tell you beyond what you can infer from all these userboxes, so let me just expound upon those.
As you can see, my 2 main academic interests are linguistics and computer programming. I graduated about a year ago from the University of Pittsburgh as a Computer Engineer. Now, I do Java programming in New York City, writing software that trades on the NYSE. In a few months, I'll be moving to London to live and work for a while. I'm hoping to eventually find a job that'll send me to live in China or India, and I'd love the chance to live and work in a lot of other places as well. If you have a connection, please don't hesitate to let me know on my talk page ;).
I did minor edits for a while here before getting an account. I have also made a few edits on Wikipédia française, although I do not have an account there.
Recently, I've been trying to help with eliminating links to disambiguation pages. You can help by going to Wikipedia:Disambiguation pages with links, finding the list of disambig pages which have inbound links. Click the "links" link next to that entry to get a list of all that pages that link there. Then, you go to a page, find the link, and redirect it to the proper page. For example, as I write this, there are 827 inbound links to the "Punk" disambig page. So, you'd go to one of those pages, edit it, find all the occurrences of punk, and replace each with punk or punk or whichever specific entry is most appropriate. Comment your modification with a "you can help" link to Wikipedia:Disambiguation pages with links so others can get in on the fun.
I've done a little new page patrolling and recent changes patrolling, and I am also a happy Wiktionarian and Wikibookist(?) under the same user name.
On the personal side - I've been vegan for almost 7 years. It actually started as a joke, but ended up being a good idea so I stuck with it and consider it the best decision I've ever made. I love to cook, bake, et cetera and am a huge fan of ethnic food - Indian (especially South Indian, and especially Hyderabadi food), Thai, Chinese, Ethiopian, Vietnamese, and Cambodian among others. I like fake meat a lot - I actually eat very few vegetables and never touch salad, contrary to the common view of vegans. I do, however, eat tofu voraciously.
I like to bike a lot. I have worked as a bike messenger, although no longer. Not that I didn't like it - aside from the low pay, the lack of benefits, and the inevitability of someday getting injured, it's just about the perfect job. Reading it again, that last sentence sounds bitter, but that's really not how I intended it.
I also like bike touring. I am in the midst of planning a trip along the eastern coast of Australia, although I have no idea when time and finances will permit. I am a big fan of Critical Mass, as well.
I ride about 30 km a day - just for fun, and commuting to and from where I need to be. I haven't owned a car in over 5 years, and I don't intend to ever own one again in my life.
I share my life with 2 bikes, one of which is a fixed-gear I built myself from a Schwinn WorldSport frame to which I gave the coolest paint job. His name is Mad Max: Beyond Velodrome.
Oh yes, that reminds me, I've also (mostly) converted myself to the metric system. I still have some trouble visualizing a kilometer, but overall I'm pretty good about it.
