Template talk:Catalan-speaking regions
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Xtv, I propose to:
- Add that in neither Alghero, Carxe, la Franja and Roussillon catalan has official status which is really important.
- Change the name of Northern Catalonia (which has no official status and has no meaning for anyone outside the catalan-speaking community) to Roussillon which is the correct name of that territory.
- The same way there is an explanation to say that catalan is called valencian in valencia, there should be another for the balears.

- I think if ° means only official language and * is co-official, the only possibility for the rest is being non official, therefore it is not strictly necessary. I have nothing against telling it explicitly except what I commented here: I think this kind of templates should be as sketched as possible, and adding so much literature for such small table makes it quite unnatural. Also in the same discussion I say why I am against of adding the comment about the Balearic Islands. As I said, I don't want the information to be hidden, but I find strange that there is more text of explanation of the table as the table itself. I find better to have it like it is and then, with only one click, you can get all this information and much more.
- Northern Catalonia is not only Rosselló. Is Capcir, Cerdanya, Conflent, Rosselló and Vallespir. It is closer to Pirinees Orientelles than only to Rosselló, but however some authors consider (some part of) Fenolheda not being part of Catalonia, others yes... so, I think that, as before, the best thing is to leave the most precise way (Northen Catalonia) such that again only with one click, you can have the information clearly detailed.
- Still one more argument to avoid the sentence about Balearic is: how would you write it? "In the Balearic Islands Catalan is called...???" Balearic? no, they don't say it! Mallorcan? only in Mallorca. "Mallorcan, Menorcan, Eivissenc and Formenterer in each respective island"? As I said, it is a template, not an article. The solution they took in their Autonomy Statute was to call it Catalan. Why should we complicate us more than them?
I'm looking forward to hearing your oppinion,--Xtv - (my talk) - (que dius que què?) 03:02, 25 February 2007 (UTC)

- Catalan is official in Alghero. Have a look here, here and here or here. This information should be added.
- Again, what about Fenolheda?
- Catalan is called officially Valencian in Valencia, but isn't called officially "mallorquí", "menorquí", "eivissenc" or "formenterenc" in Balearic Islands. I think this template should show official names only, because there are lots of local names for Catalan language, like "lleidetà", "tortosí", "pallarès", etc. --Pmmollet(Talk) 12:43, 26 February 2007 (UTC)
