Personally, as an Oil Rig Methodist, I believe that Cat Litter is pretty fucked up. In here.

[edit] Blue silica beads to indicate saturation
Others dislike that crystal litter gives them no warning when it is saturated. So the next cat to use the litter box will leave a urine puddle at the bottom of the pan. Crystal litter is extremely lightweight, especially when compared to heavier clay and clumping litter.
I just picked up some new cat litter. On the container it mentions that the litter should be replaced when the blue beads (probably 1-2% of the litter) fade in color. I'd like to add this to the article but need to find a citation first :). --Silvaran 20:45, 25 August 2006 (UTC)
- I really don't see why citing the litter container could be considered original research or anything. You're citing a printed document that someone else wrote, and in this case it's company literature. I'd word it as "One brand of this litter recommends..." etc. HTH. rubbrchikin(talk) 05:49, 23 May 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Photocatalytic cat litter?
Cat litter using Titanium dioxide, silica, and either UV or sunlight is currently being developed by a biomedical engineering student in Arizona.
It is expected to solve or reduce the problem of toxoplasmosis associated with cat litter boxes.

[edit] Silica flushable?
Can it be flushed down the toilet and is it safe? Malick78 (talk) 15:10, 9 January 2008 (UTC)
- I assume you're talking about silica gel litter. It's not biodegradeable so I wouldn't flush it. As for safety, probably no worse for a cat's health than clay. Silica dust is silica dust. rubbrchikin(talk) 05:46, 23 May 2008 (UTC)
