[edit] What is Category Data?
Category data is a quick, simple way of adding structured data to Wikipedia articles. You simply fill in the fields in the category data template fields at the end of the article. Click on the field names for a description of exactly what data should go in the field. The data should be taken straight from the article and correspond to what is there, but written in a standard format into a standard structure. If the subject of the article fits into more than one data category, there may be more that one category data box to fill in.
[edit] Why Bother?
By adding structured data to articles you make it much easier for a computer to work with the data. This will allow much better searching of data including complex queries and other automatic processing we haven't though of yet.
