Catholic World News is an online news service founded in 1996 by Philip F. Lawler, a former editor of the conservative Catholic magazine Crisis and employee of the Heritage Foundation. It is an independent news service, staffed by lay Catholic journalists, providing news concerning the Roman Catholic Church. As with "Crisis," its editorial policy is generally conservative, serving "loyal Catholics" with an emphasis on "orthodoxy." It averages 200,000 visits per day. It claims that "its reports have been recognized for their accuracy, objectivity, and sound analysis." The service wwas recently purchased by Trinity Communications (www.trincomm.org), a non-profit corporation focused on web-development for Catholic organizations. The service features an archive of over 47,000 news stories as well as editorial commentary (the "Off the Record" blog) and a forum for subscribers ("Sound Off").
