Catharsis was an influential anarcho-crust metal band from North Carolina formed in the early 90's.
They were largely associated with a music style known as "holy terror", a form of apocalyptic metallic hardcore that was breeding during the mid-90's. They were also known for writing extremely lengthy songs with complex title names and crazy time signatures. After a couple of releases, vocalist Brian Dingledine -heavily involved with the anarchist decentralized collective Crimethinc- put the band on the collectivist label. Several members went on to join or form other notable bands such as Zegota, Paint It Black, Requiem, 3 Inches Of Blood, Trial, Undying, and Walls of Jericho.
