Catende

Catende is a Brazilian municipality in the state of Pernambuco.

Estimated population in 2004: 31,063. Total area: 207 km². Located 93 meters above the sea level and 142 km away from the state capital, Recife.

The economy is based on the cultivation of sugarcane and the production of derived products (sugar and ethanol). Catende used to boast the world's largest sugar mill.[citation needed]
