Catemaco is a small village on the shores of Laguna Catemaco, in southern region of the Mexican state of Veracruz. It is considered the brujo capital of Mexico. The Spanish term "brujo" may be translated as witch, sorcerer, warlock, necromancer, "alternative healer", faith healer and others. Catemaco celebrates an annual brujo festival on the first Thursday/Friday of March. It is called the "Congreso Internacional de Brujos " and is a gathering of brujos and brujas from near and far.
