[edit] History

Category 5 Records was founded in January 2006 by its president, Raymond Termini.[1] Tony Benken, formerly a promotion director of the Broken Bow Records label, was signed as vice president of promotion for Category 5.[2] Carl Strube, formerly president of Critique Records, is the label's vice president and general manager.[2] Portions of the label's proceeds are given to hurricane relief funds.[1]

The first act signed to Category 5 was Craig Hand, whose debut single "Direct Connect" was released in February of 2006.[1] Acts who have also signed to the label include Sammy Kershaw and Travis Tritt, as well as Jerrod Neimann, who co-wrote Garth Brooks's 2005 single "Good Ride Cowboy" and his 2006 single "That Girl Is a Cowboy".[3]

[edit] Controversy

Founder Raymond Termini, who is CEO of Haven Healthcare, was under investigation by the State of Connecticut. It is alleged that patients in Haven Healthcare facilities suffered hardships such as lack of heat and lack of care as a result of mismanagement by Haven Healthcare not paying their creditors. It is further alleged that Termini misappropriated corporate funds to fund Category 5 and to purchase a lakehouse. [4]
