CATALINA magazine was founded in 2001 by Latina journalist Cathy Areu to break stereotypes of Hispanics in the media and entertainment. Created "for the mind, body, and soul of today's Latina," CATALINA is currently a multi-platform lifestyle media company featuring a glossy magazine, events, an annual "Groundbreaking Latina" awards show, a popular website featuring CATALINA TV, and an online book club. Famous Hispanics featured in CATALINA include Jennifer Lopez, Eva Longoria, Carlos Mencia, Eva LaRue, Antonio Banderas, Sofía Vergara, Shakira, Daisy Fuentes, and Soledad O'Brien.

CATALINA was named the "Lead Launch" by Folio Magazine, and is the official magazine of the National Association of Latina Leaders, a non-profit promoting the rights of Hispanic women in the U.S. CATALINA was chosen to be part of the NIH's Heart Truth Campaign, promoting good heart health to U.S. women. CATALINA magazine and its events have been featured by the Associated Press, The Washington Post, Hispanic Outlook Magazine, The Insider, Extra, the E! Channel, CNN, and other national media outlets.
