Is this the same subject as Marals? Merge the articles? ike9898 14:33, 3 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Maral refers to two different animals

It is my understanding that Maral by itself, usually refers to the East European red deer, which is a subspecies of European Red Deer Cervus elaphus maral.

There are the Altai Maral and Siberian Maral that are races of Wapiti Cervus canadensis canadensis. These are the largest races of Wapiti in Eurasia. However, the Roosevelt Elk is the largest race of Wapiti found in North America.

You can discuss Maral in the East European red deer page and the Wapiti page in the context of which animal you are referring to.
