Talk:Casey Printers
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Printers started 2004 as the third string, behind Dickenson and some guy who played for Winnipeg last year. Printers was the third QB to go in in 2004 if I remember correctly. Stettlerj 18:27, 19 January 2006 (UTC)
- Yup, a while back I added in that "some guy" - it was Spergeon Wynn. Printers outshone him in '04 training camp, but I also seem to remember that he was 3rd to go in the reg. season but once he got his chance he took it, big time. Regarding the '04 Grey Cup, it's never been 100% clear how hurt he was at the time and how much that played into Buono's decision to start Dickenson. (Printers was hurt in the Western final, Dickenson came in when it was tied in the 4th Q and got the win [1]). Printers insisted he was ready though, and the controversy raged on for the next year and a bit until he signed with the Chiefs. Note that he turned down large (by CFL standards) contract offers from the Lions twice (once before '05 training camp, once right before he signed with the Chiefs, although there was some scuttlebut about the first one being backend-loaded indicating that Dickenson would remain #1 for the time being). He had toe surgery late in the offseason,[2] and had injury problems throughout the 2005 season. I won't delve into the whole thing too much right now - needless to say in 2004 "Caseymania" energized the town football-wise in a way not seen in years, but from the GC until he left it was basically one big QB controversy. heqs 09:30, 4 August 2006 (UTC)
A further comment on one of my edits - [3] - Printers didn't start the '05 WF. IIRC he only got a couple of minutes at the very end of the game. The whole '05 season was a bit convoluted... heqs 10:42, 28 October 2006 (UTC)
- Thanks for providing the reference Jstrap. That helps to clear it up. heqs 17:56, 2 November 2006 (UTC)
Can anyone provide links to where the Chiefs transactions involving Printers this year are documented? ie. between the playing roster and the practice roster? heqs 08:49, 14 November 2006 (UTC)
- I found some refs on the Chiefs site, but for his most recent assignment to the practice roster, all I could find was a mention of his current status in a Vancouver paper. heqs 11:56, 14 November 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Failed GA
As of [4], the article during this review, I failed this article for Good Article status. Here are the reasons:
- The lead is too short to summarize the whole article. Please read again WP:LS. Why should you repeat that he is a former Canadian player in the short lead section twice?
-
- What may look like repeated information is just an attempt to inform the reader about both the games played and the leagues played in. heqs 10:49, 24 December 2006 (UTC)
- Avoid using currently term, because it is inexact in the future.
- Early years section is still stubby. Please expand more.
- Prose (criterion 1.a) is not good enough for GA. For instances,
- Printers played collegiately at Texas Christian University from 1999 to 2001, leading the TCU Horned Frogs to back-to-back Western Athletic Conference championships in 1999 and 2000 and three straight bowl games, including back-to-back appearances in the Mobile Alabama Bowl in 1999 and 2000. → too long sentence, repeated "including" and "back-to-back" words. And what is "back-to-back" anyway?
- The 1999 and 2000 Horned Frogs, coached by Dennis Franchione, also featured Heisman Trophy candidate and future NFL star LaDainian Tomlinson at running back. → what is the subject of this sentence?
-
- The subject is the team he played on in 1999 and 2000. This indicates the level of football talent that he had around him in those years. heqs 10:49, 24 December 2006 (UTC)
-
- Printers' 4,621 passing yards and 37 touchdown passes each rank third in TCU history. → Grammar problems.
- He transferred to Florida A&M for his senior year (2002), where he lead the Rattlers to a 7-5 record, completing 123 of 218 passes for 1,517 yards with 12 touchdowns and 5 interceptions and rushing for 3 touchdowns. → spot a grammar problem, too many facts in one sentence that confuses the reader, including me.
- and many more .... Serious copyediting is still needed. I'd suggest to ask other copyeditors who do not know about this subject to do the copyediting.
- Personal section is really really stubby. Please expand more or just simply drop it.
When all the issues above are resolved, the article can be WP:GAC renominated back. As always, if you feel disagree about my reviews, then you can ask for re-review. — Indon (reply) — 14:07, 22 December 2006 (UTC)
- Thanks for your review, however, it would have been appreciated if you allowed some time to address them before failing. It's a little frustrating that the nomination sat there for almost 3 weeks with no comments, only to be failed the first time someone looked at it. heqs 10:40, 24 December 2006 (UTC)
