Castle Vale Shopping Centre

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Castle Vale Shopping Centre is a shopping centre located on the Castle Vale estate in Birmingham, England.

The original centre was built in 1966 to serve the new housing estate that was being developed at this time. It was initially very popular thanks to its wide range of shops and modern, functional design. But it was one of the most hard-hit parts of the estate during the decline that began towards the end of 1970s. Shoplifting and vandalism became rife, traders moved out, and by 1990 many of the units in the centre were disused.

Castle Vale Shopping Centre was completely rebuilt during the early 2000s and is now a modern development - much different from the old centre, which by the time of its demise was very dilapidated.
