The Cass Business School of London (officially the Sir John Cass Business School, City of London) is a business school located in the City of London, England, and is part of City University, London.

The Cass Business School is accredited by AMBA and EQUIS and offers Specialist Master's Programmes, MBA (Master of Business Administration) and Executive Programmes. The School is housed in a building located in the City of London, which caters predominantly for postgraduates. It also offers a range of undergraduate courses. The School offers an EMBA China programme in China which is aimed at Chinese students. The School has more than 25,000 alumni globally.

Cass has ranked very highly in recent years: Cass gained 2nd place overall in UK and 6th in Europe in the Financial Times Survey of European Business Schools 2004. In the Financial Times 2007 ranking of European Business Schools ranked Cass 4th best in the UK.[1] The Actuarial Science is among the Top Actuarial Science departments in the world, ranked second only to Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania.[2]

Cass recently announced a second campus at Canary Wharf, catering mainly for its Executive Education wing CassExec. The campus is housed in One Canada Square.

The Cass Business School is divided into three faculties. These faculties are the Faculty of Actuarial Science, Faculty of Finance and the Faculty of Management.

The Dean of the School was previously Professor David Currie (Lord Currie of Marylebone), who stepped down in April 2007 and was replaced by Richard Gillingwater, who started at the School in January 2008.[3]

The Cass Business School (Sir John Cass Business School, City of London) is part of City University. It was formerly known as City University Business School but changed its name in August 2002 following a substantial donation from the Sir John Cass Foundation, a leading educational charity.

Undergraduate Programmes: BSc Actuarial Science, BSc Banking and International Finance, BSc Business Studies, BSc Investment and Financial Risk Management (IFRM), BSc Management, BSc Risk Analysis and Insurance, BSc Real Estate Finance and Investment, International Foundation Programme, Master of European Business (MEB). Cass Business School's undergraduate program is ranked first in London and third in the UK, according to The Guardian University Guide 2008 and The Guardian University Guide 2009. Furthermore, The Times ranked Cass' (City University) Business Programmes at 13th out of 113 universities in the United Kingdom.

Specialist Masters Programme: Cass is the largest provider in Europe of specialist masters courses geared towards the global financial services industry, with more than 20 programmes on offer ranging from Actuarial Science through to Shipping.

Alumni: more than 25,000 alumni in business globally. The Cass postgraduate programs draw students from more than 90 countries worldwide.

MBA: The Higher Education Funding Council of England and Wales gives Cass's business and management teaching the highest rating of ‘excellent’. The Cass MBA is recognised and accredited by both the Association of MBAs (AMBA) and the European Quality Improvement Scheme (EQUIS).


Executive MBA Dubai:In September 2007 Cass Business School started EMBA in collaboration with DIFC (Dubai International Financial Centre). This programme will be delivered through state of art e-learning and intensive work shops taught by visiting Cass academia once in a month over long weekends.

HM Treasury ranked Cass 19th in the world as part of the Highly Skilled Migrant Programme which exempts MBAs from the world's top 50 business schools from the usual visa requirements to work in the UK. [4]

SII Centre of Excellence: Cass Business School is the first of a select group of UK universities to be designated a Securities & Investment Institute (SII) Centre of Excellence. The designation will offer Cass graduates a significant headstart when progressing their financial services careers. The Centre of Excellence designation means that Cass graduates who complete the MSc in Finance or the MSc in Investment Management will also be eligible for the award of the SII Diploma (which will become formally known as the "SII Masters" programme) without having to take any of the SII exams. Cass will be the only London based Centre of Excellence.[5]

The Cass MBA is offered through a one year course of full-time development, through a two year part-time Executive MBA, or through a modular Executive MBA. The Cass Executive MBA was ranked 15th and 18th (world rankings) in 2006 and 2007 respectively by FT. The full-time MBA was 41st (world rankings) in 2008 by the same publication.

In February 2008, Cass Business School appointed Professor Stefan Szymanski as the new Associate Dean of MBA Programmes at Cass. Professor Szymanski joined from Tanaka Business School, Imperial College and will help to develop the prestige of the Cass MBA programme.
