Casino Aztar Caruthersville
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Casino Aztar Caruthersville is a 21,000 square feet (1,950 m²) riverboat casino located in Caruthersville, Missouri that is owned and operated by Isle of Capri. The riverboat is named City of Caruthersville and is located by a 37 acres (15 ha) site that also contains an enclosed pavilion that is used to host various events.
In 2005, the casino generated $28 million in revenue and $7 million in profits.[1]
[edit] History
A deal to sell the casino to Fortunes Entertainment fell through on November 6, 2006. Aztar Corporation, the previous owner, was bought out by Columbia Sussex on January 3, 2007. Columbia Sussex, unable to obtain a casino license in the state, immediately put the property up for sale and threatened to close it down in order to preserve the takeover deal with Aztar.[2]
On March 19, 2007 Isle of Capri purchased the casino from Columbia Sussex for about $45 million. Isle of Capri has not decided on a name for the casino. The company operates four distinct brands, including Isle of Capri, Rhythm City, Colorado Central Station and The Isle, a new theme at its Pompano Park racetrack casino in Pompano Beach, Florida.[3]
Columbia Sussex has since lost its license in New Jersey, is under investigation in Indiana, and has put the rest of their casino properties up for sale.[4]
