[edit] Playing career
Pierro-Zabotel was only 15 years old when he tried out for the Calgary Hitmen of the WHL where he was cut during try-outs. Casey then started his Junior career in the British Columbia Hockey League, Zabotel received very little ice time in his rookie year. In his 2nd year he received more ice time and almost averaged a point a game. Then in his 3rd year, slated as his NHL Draft year, Zabotel averaged almost a goal a game, and over 2 points a game. He fnished 3rd in scoring in the BCHL, behind 20-year old Tyler Bozak and Kyle Turris, who was drafted 3rd overall in 2007.
He received a scholarship offer from Michigan Tech of the Western Collegiate Hockey Association for the 07–08 season. He lead Canada West to a gold medal at the inaugural World Junior A Challenge, held in Yorkton, Saskatchewan. Instead of taking the scholarship offer, Pierro-Zabotel played the 2007–08 season for the Vancouver Giants of the Western Hockey League.
On April 19, 2008, Pierro-Zabotel signed an amateur try-out contract with the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins of the American Hockey League. He became the Penguins' third pick of the 2007 draft to sign a contract with Wilkes-Barre/Scranton, after Luca Caputi and Keven Veilleux joined the team earlier in the week. He will join the team as they play in the Calder Cup Playoffs.[1]
