[edit] License tagging for Image:Camp sm McCoy-award.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Camp sm McCoy-award.jpg. Wikipedia gets thousands of images uploaded every day, and in order to verify that the images can be legally used on Wikipedia, the source and copyright status must be indicated. Images need to have an image tag applied to the image description page indicating the copyright status of the image. This uniform and easy-to-understand method of indicating the license status allows potential re-users of the images to know what they are allowed to do with the images.

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

This is an automated notice by OrphanBot. If you need help on selecting a tag to use, or in adding the tag to the image description, feel free to post a message at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. 00:06, 31 October 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Orphaned non-free media (Image:Houston.1.pdf)

Thanks for uploading Image:Houston.1.pdf. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 06:35, 15 January 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Fair use rationale for Image:San_Angelo_Standard_Times_Article._August_1_1986_Houston_McCoy.pdf

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:San_Angelo_Standard_Times_Article._August_1_1986_Houston_McCoy.pdf. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use. Suggestions on how to do so can be found here.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Rettetast (talk) 12:26, 6 March 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Fair use rationale for Image:San Angelo Standard Times Article. August 1 1986 Houston McCoy.pdf

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:San Angelo Standard Times Article. August 1 1986 Houston McCoy.pdf. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use. Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

Thank you. NOTE: once you correct this, please remove the tag from the image's page. [edit] Re: Can you please tell me what I'm doing wrong.

Hi Carrt, when you upload non-free media, it has to meet all the 10 criteria in WP:NFCC. You gave a fair-use rationale, but you didn't say which article the pdf was meant for (which is required by WP:NFCC #10c). I can restore the file or you can re-upload it as long as you give the full fair-use rationale. Spellcast (talk) 06:58, 2 April 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Image:Waco.Trbune.Herald.Police.Used.Airplane.to.Halt.Sniper.4-23-1967.pdf

I have tagged Image:Waco.Trbune.Herald.Police.Used.Airplane.to.Halt.Sniper.4-23-1967.pdf as {{no rationale}}, because it does not provide a fair use rationale. If you believe the image to be acceptable for fair use according to Wikipedia policy, please provide a rationale explaining as much, in accordance with the fair use rationale guideline, on the image description page. Some examples can be found at Wikipedia:Use rationale examples. Please also consider using {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags/Non-free. Thank you. Rettetast (talk) 05:20, 14 April 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Image copyright problem with Image:Austin American Statesman July 1963.jpeg.JPG

Thanks for uploading Image:Austin American Statesman July 1963.jpeg.JPG. The image has been identified as not specifying the copyright status of the image, which is required by Wikipedia's policy on images. If you don't indicate the copyright status of the image on the image's description page, using an appropriate copyright tag, it may be deleted some time in the next seven days. If you have uploaded other images, please verify that you have provided copyright information for them as well.

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

This is an automated notice by STBotI. For assistance on the image use policy, see Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. NOTE: once you correct this, please remove the tag from the image's page. STBotI (talk) 02:51, 19 May 2008 (UTC)
