[edit] Paddy Byrne

A "{{prod}}" template has been added to the article Paddy Byrne, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but the article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice explains why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may contest the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page. [edit] Notability of Noel Palmer

Hello, this is a message from an automated bot. A tag has been placed on Noel Palmer, by another Wikipedia user, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. The tag claims that it should be speedily deleted because Noel Palmer seems to be about a person, group of people, band, club, company, or web content, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is notable: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not assert the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable.

To contest the tagging and request that administrators wait before possibly deleting Noel Palmer, please affix the template {{hangon}} to the page, and put a note on its talk page. If the article has already been deleted, see the advice and instructions at WP:WMD. Feel free to contact the bot operator if you have any questions about this or any problems with this bot, bearing in mind that this bot is only informing you of the nomination for speedy deletion; it does not perform any nominations or deletions itself. [edit] Speedy deletion of Ian Kelly

A tag has been placed on Ian Kelly, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia per CSD A7.

Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not meet basic Wikipedia criteria may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as an appropriate article, and if you can indicate why the subject of this article is appropriate, you may contest the tagging. To do this, add {{hangon}} on the top of the article and leave a note on the article's talk page explaining your position. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would confirm its subject's notability under the guidelines.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion. To do this, add {{hangon}} on the top of the page (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag) and leave a note on the page's talk page explaining your position. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself. Laaabaseball 12:33, 12 October 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Include more categories

Hi Carlinbohs, When starting articles on players from Bohemians, is it possible that you could add these players to all the categories for all their clubs and not just Bohs. This may help some of them from being deleted. Cheers Djln --Djln 22:07, 21 October 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Graham Conway

A proposed deletion template has been added to the article Graham Conway, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. If you agree with the deletion of the article, and you are the only person who has made substantial edits to the page, please add {{db-author}} to the top of Graham Conway. Hello, Carlinbohs. I'm not sure if you were aware, but shortly after you contested the PROD for this article (Sean Moore (footballer)), it was sent to Articles for Deletion for discussion. Right now there isn't much of a consensus on the issue, however I wanted to give you a call to see if there is a way we could make sure this article is not deleted. The nomination, and my current reasoning in support of the deletion, focus on the fact that while your source does help add credence to the fact that Sean Moore is notable, it's not the most reliable source due to the difficulty one would have in checking the source. As the author, I assume you have a copy of this particular programme, or know someone else who has it. In an effort to make the source more reliable, I was wondering if it would be possible for you to scan the program into a PDF or similar file and upload it to Wikipedia or a personal website, so that readers would much more easily be able to read your source and confirm the information.
Again, right now there is no consensus to delete the article (unless the closing admin is an incredibly strict deletionist, which I find unlikely), so this may not be necessary at all. However, I'd certainly be willing to change my opinion on the discussion if this were possible, and I'm sure it would stem off, or at least severely hinder, any future AfD nominations for your article. Thanks for your time, and I hope to hear from you soon. Happy editing! Hersfold (t/a/c) 05:29, 5 January 2008 (UTC)
If you do upload anything from the program please be careful not to violate copyright. My understanding is that copying short quotes would be acceptable as fair use, but copying a whole article would not be allowed, but IANAL. Phil Bridger (talk) 11:00, 5 January 2008 (UTC)
Yes, an uploaded scan of the programme would have to be uploaded under a fair use criteria. Since we're not using the text of the programme in the article, it should be acceptable. Hersfold (t/a/c) 23:53, 6 January 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Stub articles

Hi Carlinbohs

Please could you consider being more restrained in creating new stub articles, and if you must create stub articles to try to make sure that they are properly-formed stubs? I notice that your article creations in the last few months include:

  • Louis Farrell, which has one reference to "Irish Times 26th March 1900", without indicating either an article title or a page number, which makes it very difficult for anyone else to verify the reference
  • Charlie Magwood‎, which remains completely unreferenced 3 months after the article was created
  • Jack Hehir, which references only a match program of his own club (to establish notability, a reference is needed to substantial coverage in a reliable source whicch is independent of the subject)

None of these articles is properly categorised; at minimum, a biographical article should be categorised by year of birth (if known) or in Category:Year of birth missing. If the person is known to be living, they should be categorised in Category:Living people, otherwise and by year of death (if known) or (if date of death is unknown) in Category:Year of death missing or Category:Possibly living people.

These are all stub articles, but are not tagged as stubs, which means that they are not identified to other editors as article in need of attention. For footballers from the Republic of Ireland, use {{Ireland-footy-bio-stub}}; for those from the North, use {{NorthernIreland-footy-bio-stub}} ... that way they show up in the stub categories.

However, if all that is known about players is that they played in a few matches, that's not enough for a series standalone article -- the same information is displayed much more usefully in a list, so I have tagged some of the articles for merger. That doesn't mean that the information will be deleted, just that it will combined in one article. --BrownHairedGirl (talk) • (contribs) 02:26, 30 March 2008 (UTC)
