[edit] Hilary Arthur Reuel Tolkien - death date?

Does anyone know when Hilary Tolkien died? Carcharoth 14:22, 8 July 2006 (UTC)

Found it. It was 1976. See here. Carcharoth 23:24, 9 July 2006 (UTC)
Gah!! It was here all along! Talk about missing the obvious... Carcharoth 19:49, 12 July 2006 (UTC)

Great work. Might want to add some info on the births of JRRT's grandkids (see {{Tolkien}}). The thematic timelines seem like they'd be tricky to do without being redundant with the primary timeline. The 'published works' section would probably be long enough to constitute an article on its own... especially if it includes academic and/or posthumous publications. Theoretically, this could be set up as a single list of dates which could then be transcluded with parameters set to show different subsets... but would that be too much work / too confusing to update? Benefit of course would be that the main and thematic lists would come from the same source and thus remain consistent. --CBD 00:22, 12 July 2006 (UTC)

Thanks. Having the thematic and main list coming from the same source sounds great. Updating is not a problem as there are ways to get "edit buttons" added to a template, and maybe this can be tweaked to allow people to add stuuf this way. One problem is that some events would come under more than one category. Could the template parameters cope with that? Carcharoth 19:47, 12 July 2006 (UTC)
Well, it would have to be set up with something like; {{#if: {{{main|}}}{{{publications|}}}{{{translations|}}}|<Text to display for main list, publications list and translations list>}}... which is what I meant about being potentially confusing. It could certainly display the same info in multiple sections, but people would need to understand how the #if: works to make changes. --CBD 18:33, 16 July 2006 (UTC)
If the template could have the main list show the different categories as colour-coded entries, I'd be sold on at least trying to make this work! Carcharoth 01:02, 17 July 2006 (UTC)
