Some notes about me...

Mostly, I exhibit WikiGnome tendencies (gently improving pages, sorting spelling, grammar, punctuation and MoS issues), but on occasion I go into a frenzy and become a WikiOgre, creating pages of reasonable quality in short timeframes. I don't think there's a WikiFauna creature that quite meets that profile, so I associate myself with the Ogres :grrrrr:.

Since posting my first GA nomination, I have started to review GA applicants. I think I may be sometimes too strict, and if you disagree with my reviews, feel free to talk to me, either on my talk page or on the talk page of the reviewed article – I'm always willing to compromise. I won't involve myself in an edit war, but nor will I accept incivility.

As a Brit, one of the few things that really gets my goat is Americans changing English spellings with an edit summary of "Spelling correction" – if you don't know why the language you speak is called English, and not American, why should I take you seriously? It's a heated argument, and I'm perfectly aware of the differences between the two languages – why can't you be? I'm also inclined to be as harsh about changes from en-US to en-GB without justification; we are, after all, "two countries separated by a common language"—George Bernard Shaw.

Another favourite quote of mine about the differences between the UK and the US is:

Americans think 100 years is a long time, while the English think 100 miles is a long way.

I can't find an attribution for that quote, but I live in a village that has been here for over 1000 years (yes, a thousand!), so I like it...

[edit] Adding references

First use of a reference (Note: references go outside punctuation):

<ref name="xyz">reference text</ref>

Subsequent references:

<ref name="xyz"/>

To add a references section, add the following code:

== References ==
<div class="references-small" style="-moz-column-count:2; column-count:2;">
<references/>
</div>

[edit] Fair Use Rationale for book covers

Add the following to image pages, to stop robots coming along and tagging them for deletion:

== Fair Use Rationale ==
{{Non-free media rationale
|Description=This image is an identification book cover illustration for a modern novel
|Source=
|Portion=
|Resolution=It is a lower resolution scan suitable for such illustration but little else.
|Purpose=Identification book cover illustration
|Replaceability=Being a modern novel it is not replaceable by a free image
