[edit] Carstairs Junction

Gosh, If Carstairs is a Junction, why isn't the station called that? and likewise Carlisle and Preston and Wigan and Warrington and Crewe - need I go on? Why are they not all called junctions like Clapham and Watford etc. Please would a Scottish person write a worthwhile article about Carstairs railway station instead of messing around with changing the colours of whichever firm they are that run the sleeper trains and please do it while there are still sleeper trains being joined and divided at Carstairs! And please remember that it was built by the Caledonia Railway Company as an equal main line split between Glasgow and Edimburgh. Neither was a branch to the other, then or now.

What is this obsession in Wikiwhatsit with trivia at the expense of worthwhile information?

[edit] WCML terminates at Carstairs Junction - official

According to Network Rail's strategic plan here, the WCML ("Route 18") ends at Carstairs Junction! at that point it divides into "Route 26" to Glasgow Central and "Route 24" to Edinburgh Waverley. The same plan has the official names and numbers for all the routes, so train buffs can have many a happy hour correcting all the the stations on Wikipedia. --Concrete Cowboy 17:38, 2 May 2006 (UTC)

Though for reasons of usability, the Glasgow and Edinburgh extensions should be included, I believe. --Concrete Cowboy 21:58, 2 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Services clean-up

I have deleted the services that don't stop here. --Concrete Cowboy 21:58, 2 May 2006 (UTC)

According to National Rail Enquiries a through train leaves Carstairs tomorrow morning at 00:16 and arrives London Euston at 07:00. NoelWalley 06:39, 3 May 2006 (UTC)
So it does. I'll put ScotRail back, even though there is only one train/day. But not Virgin. --Concrete Cowboy 17:04, 3 May 2006 (UTC)
Virgin also stop at Carstairs (Mon to Fri 20:50 southbound and 8:20 northbound) and they also list details of the station on their website. NoelWalley 11:19, 5 October 2006 (UTC)
New timetable? I couldn't find it earlier this year. --Concrete Cowboy 18:59, 5 October 2006 (UTC)

Try it on-line yourself. Use network rail journey planner and seek trains tomorrow Friday from Carstairs to Carlisle and you will find one without a change. Ditto in reverse. NoelWalley 19:50, 5 October 2006 (UTC)

No argument about today. Just wondered if I read it wrong last May. --Concrete Cowboy 23:36, 5 October 2006 (UTC)
