[edit] What is this?

I'm thinking this is a fictional creature, possibly from World of Warcraft. If so, a note of that should be made on this page. – Mipadi July 1, 2005 15:19 (UTC)

No, it's from D&D. WoW may have, um, borrowed it, but it's certainly not from there. MasterGrazzt 06:50, 3 December 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Contradiction

This article has at least two separate contradictions.

  • Is it a scavenger (eats carrion) or a predator ("it uses its tentacles to stun its prey") ?
  • The text says there are a pair of paralysing tentacles on the sides of its head, but the picture does not represent them as a pair. Zargulon 08:15, 8 July 2006 (UTC)

Without having looked it up, I do believe it is a scavenger primarily, but will eat live prey when the opportunity presents itself. If someone with actual source material handy could check that, this issue can be easily resolved.

  1. A carrion crawler has, according to the illustration and text in the 3rd edition Monster Manual, eight tentacles near its mouth. However, the description says the tentacles are two feet long, hence the confusion.
  2. They do mainly eat dead/decaying flesh, but they will also "attack and kill living creatures." (Quote from Monster Manual 3E.)
