[edit] Deletion

Are there any verifiable facts to warrant this article? Alvis 18:15, 20 March 2006 (UTC)

This page has the most information that I have found so far.. inlcluding the link between Gaynor/Taff and De Felitta

http://www.worldoftheunknown.com/entity4.html

The ONLY thing wrong with this article is that it is headlined with the name Carla Moran instead of Doris Bither, the actual identity of the woman profiled in the Entity case. However, because 'Carla Moran' is the heroine of both the film and the book 'The Entity' most people will look to Wikipedia under Carla Moran. Hence the article is justified. [edit] Who wrote the book?

The article states: "Dr. Taff and doctor Gaynor came out, in 1980, with the book that would eventually become a movie."

Would that be the book that says "Frank De Felitta" on the cover? Howw are Taff and Gaynor responsible for it?

[edit] Answer and comments

The claim that Taff and Gaynor have written a book about the "Entity" case seems indeed to be the product of a confusion with Frank De Felitta's novel, "The Entity", first published in 1978 (and not 1980).

Regarding the references given in the entry: contrary to what is said, “The Real-Life Entity Case” and other articles are NOT available at www.scghs.com; this website does have links with such titles, but these links merely re-open the homepage of the site. A link to Taff's book, however, does seem to function - but of course the book isn't available for free!

Besides, the final remarks in the entry are contradicting each other; as it stands, the entry is too messy and in need of clean-up. But more importantly, the main purpose of this entry seems to be to promote dubious claims about alleged paranormal events, as well some articles and websites where such claims are presented. Wikipedia is supposed to be a source of reliable information, not a platform for the promotion of sensationalist material. None of the websites mentioned in the entry (or on this talk page, either) shows any evidence of scientific respectability, and I doubt that the articles listed there are any better. I therefore think that the people in charge should purely and simply delete this entry.

Correcting Carla Moran death notice

Being new at this I don't want to mess around with editing the article but the person who wrote that Barry Taff said on Coast To Coast AM that Carla Moran died of Multiple Myeloma either heard Barry Taff incorrectly or Barry Taff misspoke. Barry Taff's friend and partner, Barry Conrad had a girlfriend who worked cases with them and who produced a documentary with Conrad on the Mothman Prophesies.[1] Her name was Lisa McIntosh and she died of Multiple Myeloma in July of '06 as reported at the Entertainment Insider's Website.

Barry Conrad is quoted at Cryptomundoas saying the doctors said "it's extremely unusual that this type of cancer would affect someone as young as she was. Only 1 out of approximately 200,000 people contract this disease." On the face of it, it seems unlikely that the real life Carla Moran would also have contracted this rare form of cancer.

In any event, in a personal discussion I had with Barry Taff last year that remains unpublished, he told me that the real name of the woman in the Entity case was Doris Bither and that he has no idea what might have happened to her.

I can confirm that Dr. Taff never made such a comment regarding Doris Bithers' outcome. He lost track of her. Carla Moran was a name invented by the book author. The book and the film are quite at odds with the actual case which is documented in 'The Actual Entity Case' written by Dr. Taff and published at worldoftheunknown.com and now in the Journal of Paranormal Site Investigations online in the U.K. PhenomInvestigator (talk) 20:09, 31 May 2008 (UTC)
