"Jon Wedd is awesome." - Jon Wedd, Card Thrower.
[edit] History
The connection to eastern martial arts seems doubtful. On the one hand shuriken or things like that aren't quite the same as playing cards. On the other hand card-playing was popular for centuries in Europe. Anyone who has ever played cards will have noticed the amazing power a tossed card can reach. Without reliable citation i don't believe there's any need for this martial arts stuff. --Zinnmann 21:48, 11 September 2006 (UTC)
- I totally agree, and I will back that up with science. A playing card weighs 1.4 - 1.6 grams (feather weight). The fastest card thrower in the world (professional magician) can fling a card at a maximum of 145 kph (90 mph). The force that such a light projectile can impact with is about 0.06 Newton (assuming my math is on), which is laughable. That will rip paper, or get stuck in styrofoam, but with human skin will at most just sting or maybe leave a paper-cut. Furthermore, Mythbusters investigated this myth and even used a supped-up machine to launch cards at 240 kph (150 mph), which is like 0.1 Newton and gave Jamie a little paper-cut on his stomach at 10 feet.Legitimus 04:06, 8 February 2007 (UTC)

- I agree too. While a well-thrown card will hurt, and may even break the skin (as shown on Mythbusters), without attribution there is no reason to think that it will "stun" or "knock out" an invidivual. I am removing those two claims, but will keep the point about a card being able to cut.

- They didn't spin the cards on Mythbusters. Cards as Weapons certainly exaggerates the power of cards, but I think cards can do more than they did on Mythbusters. --Thomas Levine 21:54, 26 July 2007 (UTC)

Can anyone tell me why the date of Cards as Weapons was changed? It was first published in 1977 and the date on this page keeps changing all the way up to a laughable 1997, what's going on? 65.215.162.63 20:26, 9 June 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Why No Joker Reference?
The Joker uses playing cards as a weapon, albeit special metal ones. Why no mention of this in the article? --Ihmhi (talk) 23:23, 29 May 2008 (UTC) (Whoops, forgot to log in before signing.)
